LOS ANGELES, CA .-The Los Angeles County Museum of Art presents Legacies of Exchange: Chinese Contemporary Art from the Yuz Foundation. Featuring Ai Weiwei, Huang Yong Ping, Wang Guangyi, Xu Bing, and more, the exhibition brings together 20 works of Chinese contemporary art created by 15 artists in response to international trade, political conflict, and global artistic exchange. Drawn from Yuz Foundation’s esteemed collection of contemporary art, Legacies of Exchange spotlights encounters, exchanges, and collisions between China and the West. Thirty years ago was a case in point, in fact. The group s 1991 album, Into the Great Wide Open, was its first in four years (back when that was a long time) and followed the massive success of 1989 s Full Moon Fever - Petty s first release without the band moniker, though most of the Heartbreakers played on it and guitarist Mike Campbell coproduced. There was a sense of uncertainty about what that all meant and perhaps some fear that Petty would leave the Heartbreakers behind, although a band tour to support Full Moon Fever should have put those concerns to rest.
