The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has identified the first case of human West Nile virus infection in L.A. County for the 2021 season. A resident of the South Bay area was hospitalized with WNV fever in late July and is recovering. Note: Long Beach and Pasadena are excluded as cases identified in those cities are reported by their local health departments. “We all have to take steps to prevent West Nile virus infections. Additionally, a Heat Alert has been issued for the following areas: – – – – – – – Antelope Valley – Wednesday, August 4 through Saturday, August 7 Public Health reminds everyone to take precautions to avoid heat-related illness, especially older adults, young children, outdoor workers, athletes, and people with a chronic medical condition who are especially sensitive to negative health impacts from extreme heat.
