Los Angeles County Public Health officials said Thursday that while the COVID-19 vaccine has arrived in Los Angeles County, they can’t confirm definitively the length of protection the vaccine offers, or when the vaccine will be available to the general public.
During a live question-and-answer session held online, Public Health officials told residents that two vaccines will be available soon for health care workers and possibly essential workers, but that the public won’t generally have access until the spring or summer of 2021.
“There’s a variety of different factors that are considered in determining who gets the vaccine and how it’s distributed among different future hospitals for this very first round,” said Dr. Seira Kurian, director of medical affairs for the Los Angeles County Public Health Department. “As I mentioned, equity is a consideration and it’s sort of in the forefront of the decisions that we make.”

MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. - Los Angeles County s Public Health Department is asking that the city of Manhattan Beach s stop allowing a workaround to the current ban on outdoor dining.
In a letter penned to the city, County Health Officer Dr. Muntu Davis said that the city s decision to repurpose outdoor dining areas as public seating areas violates both the letter and the spirit of the revised temporary targeted safer at home health officer order issued December 9, 2020.

Hart High School is closed for the next 14 days due to a COVID-19 outbreak on the campus, district officials informed parents Wednesday.
In the email distributed to the Hart High community, Superintendent Mike Kuhlman states that the district was notified by the Los Angeles County Public Health Department that the school had three “linked cases of COVID-19 on campus” and that the campus would have to be closed through at least Dec. 30.
“This is a temporary closure of the physical campus not an interruption to the instructional program,” Kuhlman said. “Teachers and instructional support staff will continue classes online through the end of the semester this Friday.”
