The Child and Family Center’s Domestic Violence Program is set to host its fourth annual “Night of Expression” art exhibit on Saturday, Feb. 27, in recognition of Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. The event will showcase artwork and poetry from local students as they stand in solidarity with their peers against dating violence and advocate for healthy relationships. Residents are encouraged to tune in for an evening of awareness, art, poetry, empowerment and more. The exhibit will stream live at 7:00 p.m. on the Child and Family Center’s YouTube page. This event is open to the whole community and for all ages.

Share this article Share this article LOS ANGELES, Feb. 25, 2021 /PRNewswire/ The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (Public Health) launches its first quit menthol cigarette campaign to address the risks and harms of menthol tobacco use within communities most exposed to menthol – Black communities, LGBTQ, and young adults. Menthol and other flavors in tobacco hides the harsh taste of tobacco with a cool or minty flavor which can result in smokers inhaling deeper into the lungs resulting in greater exposure to the harmful and addictive chemicals. Black communities are among the highest groups of menthol smokers in LA County. Also, according to the 2018 California Youth Tobacco Survey, all high school students in LA County who reported smoking cigarettes only smoked menthol/mint cigarettes.

Los Angeles County Public Health officials on Monday confirmed 21 new deaths and 943 new cases of COVID-19 countywide, while Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Valencia reported two new deaths, bringing the hospital’s total up to 140 deaths since the pandemic began. The lower number of deaths and cases may reflect reporting delays over the weekend. To date, Public Health identified 1,181,403 positive cases of COVID-19 across all areas of L.A. County and a total of 19,904 deaths. The SCV has now tallied 25,693 COVID-19 cases 305 more than Friday and 251 deaths since L.A. county’s first confirmed COVID-19 infection was reported by Public Health officials on January 26, 2020.
