LOS ANGELES (CNS) - One of two 18-year-old men charged, along with several juveniles, with fatally injuring a counselor who was trying to break up a fight at the South Los Angeles-area residential youth facility where he worked entered a not guilty plea today.
Keith Lewis was charged Tuesday, along with Nyier Mason, with the murder of David McKnight-Hillman, 25. Mason is due in a Los Angeles courtroom for arraignment Thursday.
The two young men who were both residents at the facility – could face up to 15 years to life in state prison if convicted as charged, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney s Office.
Four boys, ages 16 and 17, denied Juvenile Court petitions charging them with murder, according to the District Attorney s Office, which did not specify the potential punishment they could face. A directive issued shortly after new District Attorney George Gascon was sworn into office last month calls for prosecutors to immediately end the practice of sending youth to the adult court system.
Los Angeles County sheriff s deputies were called about 9:50 p.m. Saturday to 5300 Angeles Vista Blvd. in the unincorporated Windsor Hills area, the site of Wayfinder Family Services, a nonprofit organization that provides support services to children, adults and families, said Deputy Joana Warren.

A San Fernando Valley man was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to assaulting a bar patron who wore a “Make America Great Again” hat inscribed in Russian, the Los Angeles Daily News reported.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Thomas Sokolov sentenced David Delgado to four years in jail, the Los Angeles Daily News reported.
Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Delgado “pleaded no contest” to one felony count of “assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury,” according to a March 4, 2020, press release.
Delgado had approached the victim at a bar restroom Labor Day Weekend Sept. 2, 2019, the Los Angeles Daily News reported. Delgado kept punching the victim after he inquired what the wording on the hat meant, which caused the victim to fall to the floor, Hermosa Beach police Sgt. Robert Higgins said, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Two 18-year-old men are scheduled to make their initial court appearances today in connection with the weekend killing of a counselor who was trying to break up a fight at the residential youth facility where he worked in the Windsor Hills area.
Nyier Mason and Keith Lewis are set to be arraigned Wednesday at the Airport Branch Courthouse on a murder charge, according to Ricardo Santiago of the Los Angeles County District Attorney s Office.
