Man Gets Life For Execution-Style Killing Of Los Angeles County Sheriff s Deputy By Suneeta Sunny Gavel
A California man who pleaded guilty to the execution-style killing of a Los Angeles County sheriff s deputy in 2016 has been sentenced to life in prison.
Trenton Lovell, 31, was sentenced to prison Monday without the possibility of parole for killing Sgt. Steve Owen. The 53-year-old man was shot five times while responding to a burglary call in Lancaster on Oct. 5, 2016.
Lovell, who had nearly a dozen previous arrests and two prior convictions for robbery, was out on parole at the time. Sgt. Owen confronted Lovell at gunpoint and alerted fellow officers.

The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office charged a homeless man, Ramon Santos Rodriguez, 48, on Tuesday with arson in connection with a large brush fire that erupted in the hills above Los Angeles and threatened the Pacific Palisades and Topanga.

Local ABC affiliate KABC-7 reported:
An arson suspect who had been in custody since Sunday in connection with the 1,158-acre brush fire in Pacific Palisades was identified Tuesday morning.

The City Council approved the settlement during its closed-session meeting Tuesday night, according to an announcement from Long Beach City Attorney Charles Parkin.
A judge must still officially dismiss the case, but the settlement essentially ends the lawsuit from Anthony Garcia, who was shot in the arm after a routine conversation quickly spiraled into a guns-drawn car stop.

Garcia was driving a Honda Civic leaving the festival around 11:30 p.m. when he passed by an officer who was helping control the flood of traffic in this case by giving Garcia directions to the freeway.
