SHERMAN OAKS (CNS) - A motorist was killed early this morning when his SUV rear-ended a box truck and caught fire on the Ventura (101) Freeway in Sherman Oaks, and the truck driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI, authorities said.
The crash was reported at 1:50 a.m. on the eastbound Ventura Freeway at Van Nuys Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The SUV s sole occupant, a 30- to 40-year-old man, died at the scene, said the Los Angeles Fire Department s Margaret Stewart.
Authorities withheld the name of the fatally injured man, who was from Ventura, pending notification of his relatives. There were no other patients, Stewart said.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) At least 50 rain-related accidents occurred on Southland freeways Friday morning as a powerful storm moved through the region, including a tractor trailer that rolled over, caught fire and came to rest hanging over the edge of the 10 Freeway in downtown Los Angeles.
The crash occurred about 3:35 a.m. near the Santa Fe Avenue exit, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire in the semi in about 45 minutes and create a larger fall zone as the tractor portion of the rig was slipping, the Los Angeles Fire Department s Margaret Stewart said.

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A tractor trailer rolled over, caught fire and came to rest hanging over the edge of the eastbound Santa Monica (10) Freeway in downtown Los Angeles this morning.
The crash occurred about 3:35 a.m. near the Santa Fe Avenue exit, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire in the semi in about 45 minutes and create a larger fall zone as the tractor portion of the rig was slipping, the Los Angeles Fire Department s Margaret Stewart said.
Flames had threatened a nearby commercial building, but it was defended from damage, she said.
