WASHINGTON â President Joe Biden is expected to announce he is nominating Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti to be his ambassador to India, and former senior State Department official Nicholas Burns to serve as his ambassador to China, according to a person familiar with the matter.
With the selections, Biden is turning to a longtime political ally and a seasoned diplomat to serve in two of the countryâs highest-profile diplomatic postings.
It was not clear when either nomination would be announced, according to the person familiar with the matter, who was not authorized to publicly comment on the matter and spoke on condition of anonymity. The White House declined to comment on either Garcetti or Burns and noted that âno one is final until theyâre announced.â

President Joe Biden is reportedly considering nominating Mark Brzezinski, the brother of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” host Mika Brzezinski, to be the U.S. ambassador to Poland, The New York Times reported Wednesday evening.
Brzezinski previously served as the U.S. ambassador to Sweden under President Barack Obama’s administration. He may be among the next highly-anticipated slate of ambassadorial nominees from Biden, whose administration has so far been slow to fill U.S. embassies across the globe, NYT reported.
Biden has not yet announced nominees for ambassadors to Beijing or Mexico City, two flashpoints in his administration’s policy goals.
