For months now, the rumor mill has been churning out regular reports that Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti was going to quit his job and take a position in the Biden administration.
The latest one? According to Axios, President Biden is considering sending Garcetti to India as an ambassador. (To India
now, when it’s being consumed by COVID-19? Doesn’t Biden like Garcetti?) The mayor is reportedly one of several people under consideration for that post.
It’s also possible he could be considered for other ambassadorships. There had been talk that Garcetti the city’s first Mexican American Jewish Italian mayor could be the ambassador to Mexico.

A mother and son separated by the Trump administration more than three years ago were finally reunited.
TOP STORIES
A Family Reunited at the Border
More than three years ago, Bryan Chavez hugged his mother, Sandra Ortiz, inside a U.S. immigration office, terrified that he would never see her again.
Chavez went to an immigration facility in California. His mother, who didn’t pass an initial asylum screening, was expelled to Mexico. They were among the earliest
family separations during the Trump administration, well before splitting families became publicized U.S. policy. More than a thousand families remain separated, but the long ordeal for Chavez and his mom is over.
Angelenos are obviously not shedding any tears. Many would probably help him pack his bags, including AM 870’s Jennifer Horn, host of “The Morning Answer.”
India s loss is our gain. Send him yesterday.

Interesting timing though. We Los Angeles RedStaters have decried Garcetti’s nearly eight years of laconic leadership. The rampant homelessness is the biggest open sore, and with a federal judge ruling that all homeless citizens of California must be housed within 60 days, Garcetti would probably relish dumping this gargantuan problem that he helped to create into someone else’s lap.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti has tapped a high-level aide to serve as the city’s top budget official, a post that will be critical as the city grapples with both an intractable homelessness crisis and a lawsuit demanding dramatic action to address it.
Garcetti on Wednesday nominated Deputy Chief of Staff Matt Szabo to be city administrative officer, replacing Rich Llewellyn, a longtime Garcetti advisor who is retiring. Szabo’s nomination requires City Council approval.
Szabo, a City Hall veteran and the mayor’s point person on the budget, has been working to sell council members on Garcetti’s latest spending plan, which calls for restoring services cut during the COVID-19 pandemic, replenishing the city’s emergency reserves and implementing new initiatives aimed at addressing racial and economic inequality.
