Van pulled from canal south of Maxwell by: The North Platte Bulletin - Jul. 7, 2021 Top News A vehicle went into the Central Public Power canal Tuesday, but the driver was lucky enough to get out and avoid serious injury. It was the second vehicle to go into the canal in that general area in less than a month. A Lincoln County sheriff’s spokesman said around 6:50 on Tuesday deputies went to the 14000 block of South Cottonwood Canyon Road south of Maxwell to check out report of a northbound mini-van that lost control and went into the water. As deputies arrived, the 911 dispatcher said the driver made it out and was on the bank.

Sheriff s office: 2 drowned in crash into Nebraska canal

June 14, 2021 GMT MAXWELL, Neb. (AP) Two people drowned last week when the pickup truck they were in rolled into a water-filled canal in western Nebraska, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said. The crash happened Thursday afternoon when the truck lost control on a rural road and went into the Tri-County Canal near Fort McPherson National Cemetery, the North Platte Telegraph reported. Deputies and officers with the Nebraska State Patrol and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission arrived on the scene to find the truck upside down and submerged in the canal, the sheriff’s office said. Workers with the Central Nebraska Public Power & Irrigation District had already jumped into the water and pulled out Alex Sanchez, 74, of North Platte, who died at the scene.
