Lincoln County Prevention Coalition aims to support county residents

◆ One in two arrests in Lincoln County is for DUI. Britney Ritter, representing the Lincoln County Prevention Coalition, explained to the community this week in an interview with SVI Media that it is a county organization focused on alcohol, tobacco, prescription drugs, marijuana use and suicide prevention. The group is a broad-based umbrella group comprising law enforcement, health care, school, and civic groups that come together and meet on a monthly basis to mitigate the damage caused by substance use. Ritter is the community prevention specialist. She says, “I’m the one that runs the grant and spearheads everything. I apply for the funding stream we use to carry out these initiatives within Lincoln County.

Catawba County Man Charged In Connection To 2019 Mini Storage Unit Break-ins Alvin Jack Johnson Catawba County Man Charged In Connection To 2019 Mini Storage Unit Break-ins April 9, 2021 41-year-old Alvin Jack Johnson of an unspecified municipality in Catawba County was arrested Wednesday (April 7) by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged with six felony counts of breaking and entering, and five felony counts apiece of larceny after breaking and entering, and possession of stolen goods. In August and December of 2019 the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office received reports of storage units being broken into at Harris Mini Storage on East N.C. 150 Highway in Maiden. Evidence collected at the scene led to the development of probable cause that Alvin Jack Johnson was responsible for the crimes.

On Wednesday (April 7) deputies responded to the 3400 block of Lake Shore Road South reference a missing person. The reporting party told officers that 27-year-old Jeffery Silas Workman was last seen walking north on Highway 16 Business in Denver carrying a black duffel bag. Relatives describe him as having cognitive issues and does not have his medication. Workman is described as a white male, 5’11”, 150 pounds. He has light orange-tinted brown hair and facial beard and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a black Nike hoodie, blue jeans and hiking boots.

In a low-key COVID-style remembrance of the lives lost due to drug overdose, black balloons were hung in front of the Lincoln County Courthouse on Saturday. Black Balloon Day has become a national and international event, bringing awareness to overdose deaths. Diane and Lauren Hurley began Black Balloon Day in remembrance of Greg Tremblay. Tremblay, a father of four, is the son-in-law of Diane and brother-in-law of Lauren and died of an overdose when he was 38 years old on March 6, 2015. The Lincoln County Sheriff s Office is asking for the public s help in locating a missing Lincoln County man. Travis Michael Reilly s friend told officers he was last seen around 4:00 p.m. on April 1 when he left a home in the 6400 block of West NC 27 Highway in Vale. He told the reporting party that he was going to return items to a store in Lincolnton but never returned home, deputies said.
