Kim White announced as principal of Dawson County Middle School

Kim White announced as principal of Dawson County Middle School Kim White Gwinnett County native and former Dawson County Assistant Principal Kim White has been named as the new principal of Dawson County Middle School, school officials announced on Wednesday.  White’s naming to the position was made official on Tuesday night at the Dawson County Board of Education’s monthly meeting. She will replace the current principal, Randi Sagona, who is set to retire at the end of the school year.  According to a school system press release, White is completing her 17th year in public education and has spent the last six years as assistant principal of Dawson County Middle School.

Forsyth County Schools names new principals

The Forsyth County Board of Education recently approved the appointment of five new principals who will assume leadership positions beginning in the 2021-22 school year.

Ann Maxie Everett

Ann Maxie Everett, 81, passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at her home in Scottsboro.  Graveside services will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 2 p.m. at Mountain View Memory Gardens. Ann was born on December 4, 1939, in Harlan County, Kentucky, and her childhood roots were tied to the Kentucky coal mining area. She received a strong ethic from her parents, Chester and Marie Maxie, who impressed upon their three daughters the importance of education.  Ann graduated from Bell County High School in 1957 and attended the following colleges: Georgetown, Moorehead, University of Kentucky, and Lincoln Memorial University. She received a master’s degree from Auburn University.

Vietnam-era veteran dedicates city bridge to hero

Huntsville native Larry Gene Clark lived near Spring Branch in the southwest part of the city. As a boy he would hunt, fish and trap along that creek. On Dec. 9, 1967, the Marine celebrated his 21st birthday. On Feb. 4, 1968, Lance Cpl. Larry Gene Clark, a fire team leader with Company A, 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Division, died in action in Vietnam. His mother, Loise, accepted the Bronze Star in his honor. The bridge on Drake Avenue, just west of Memorial Parkway, will be dedicated in Clark’s honor on March 8 at 2 p.m. The Drake Avenue bridge at Huntsville Spring Branch will be named the Lance Cpl. Larry G. Clark Memorial Bridge.
