LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) A somber start to the week. The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department (LLCHD) says another community member has died from COVID-19.
They have been identified as a woman in her 70s who was hospitalized. This brings the total number of community deaths to 228.
LLCHD also reports eight new cases of COVID-19, bringing the community total to 29,848.
So far, Lancaster County only has seven confirmed variant cases. Six of which are the U.K. variant and one is the California variant.
Four mass vaccination clinics are scheduled for this week, they are as follows:

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln will begin participating in virus sequencing of positive on-campus COVID-19 saliva samples to track the spread of potential COVID-19 variants.
The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services requested the genomic sequencing to analyze the structure of the virus to discern mutations of COVID-19, which will be done through the Nebraska Public Health Laboratory, according to an update to Nebraska Todayâs COVID-19 Digest page on March 28.
Privacy laws prohibit identification of individuals who test positive for COVID-19, and results will be communicated privately and securely to UNL community members through the Safer Community app and UNLâs online portal.
The community death total remains at 227.
Changes have been made to the COVID-19 Dashboard. Recovery will now be defined as being 60 days out from an individual’s positive COVID-19 test. The person must not be hospitalized either in order to be considered “recovered.” Based on this new definition, more than 26,700 people have recovered from the virus.
So far, more than 188,500 vaccines have been administered. Nearly 7,800 of those were administered Monday at a mass vaccination clinic.
