SOUTH HADLEY The town’s Select Board has decided on a candidate that members hope will become the next town administrator.
In a unanimous vote, the board voted early Friday morning to make an offer to Lisa Wong, the 41-year-old town manager in Winchester. The town must now complete contract negotiations with Wong before she is hired for the position.
Wong has been town manager in Winchester since 2018. She previously served as the mayor of Fitchburg from 2008 to 2016, making her the first Asian American woman in Massachusetts to become a mayor and the first minority to serve in that role in the city’s 243-year history. She drew headlines for turning the city’s finances around, boosting its stabilization fund from $10,000 when she took office to more than $5 million work that boosted the city’s bond rating from BBB- to A-, according to The Telegra
