UPDATE: Lynchburg police identify victim, suspect in overnight murder
Lynchburg police are investigating what appears to be the city’s second homicide in the past three days. It happened just after midnight in the 3400-block of Fort Ave. The deceased was identified as Cameron Malike Jones, 22, of Lynchburg. A woman is in the hospital with serious injuries.
The suspect, Devan Rashod Wooding, 22, of Halifax, led police on a chase before being arrested. He faces numerous charges, including first degree murder, breaking and entering with intent to murder, possession of a stolen firearm, two counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, malicious wounding, misdemeanor property damage, felony eluding, and reckless driving.

On Wednesday, May 12, 2021 Central Virginia Business Coalition is hosting a Healthcare Heroes Parade to honor caregivers that are on the front lines of the healthcare system.
The parade will begin at EC Glass High School at 12:00 noon and the parade route will continue down Langhorne Rd. to Lynchburg General Hospital and finish at Virginia Baptist Hospital.
New Country 107.9 YYD s Scott Stevens will be participating in the Lynchburg parade, playing music and waving from the driver s seat.
In addition, the Bedford Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Healthcare Heroes Parade Wednesday, May 12 on the campus of Bedford Memorial Hospital at 1613 Oakwood St. in Bedford starting at 12:00 noon.
One hurt in weekend shooting in Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va. – One person has been hospitalized after a shooting in Lynchburg over the weekend, according to the Lynchburg Police Department.
Authorities said they received a call about someone being shot around 11:45 p.m. Saturday in the 100-block of Jubilee Drive.
There were officers in the area who said they heard the gunshots and responded to the scene.
When they arrived, they said they found a man with a gunshot wound and performed CPR until medics arrived. The victim was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital and was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, according to police.
