CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Firefighters are providing free smoke alarms to residents in an east Charlotte community where two people, including a child, died in a house fire Monday.
Charlotte fire officials say 9-year-old Boe Reh and 62-year-old Saw Mo died after a home caught fire off Latchington Court near Albemarle Road. Medic says they are evaluating 6 other people involved. One person was taken to the hospital.
The city has cleared the way for a new five-story apartment complex called The Linton, one of the latest efforts to overhaul a gateway into the city and fulfill a need for more housing.

BROWNSVILLE, Brooklyn (WABC) At least three people were injured after a vehicle apparently ran a red light and collided into an MTA bus in Brooklyn.
The crash happened just before 3:30 Sunday morning at the intersection of Linden Boulevard and Rockaway Avenue in Brownsville.
The MTA said the car ran a red light and struck the left side front of the bus.
The impact of the crash sent the bus careening up onto the sidewalk.
Authorities say the three people injured in the car were all taken to Brookdale Hospital.
Family members of the passengers involved rushed to the scene where they consoled each other.

There may not be any of the big Powerball or Mega Millions jackpot payouts in South Florida, but Delray Beach is getting its share of lottery winners.
A winning Fantasy 5 ticket was sold in West Delray on Sunday. The ticket purchased at a Publix on Jog Road near Linton Boulevard is worth more than $174,000.
Just last week, someone bought another Fantasy 5 ticket at a Publix supermarket off South Federal Highway. It was worth over $71,000.
The winning numbers in Sunday night s Fantasy 5 are: 15-21-22-25-35.
