RENO, Nev. - For the first time all week, there is a new leader at the U.S. Open. Puerto Rico s Cristian Azcona averaged more than 250 during the first eight games of match play Friday night at the National Bowling Stadium, including a 298 game, to surge into the lead with a 9,262 total. His score includes 40 games of pinfall across four lane conditions and 30 bonus pins for each of his six wins in the opening round of matches. It took Azcona 39 games to climb his way up the standings, and he settled in just ahead of left-hander Jakob Butturff of Tempe, Arizona, who is second with 9,258. Butturff was the leader after all three rounds of qualifying and the Cashers Round, which took place Friday morning.

Central College s Mills Gallery to Exhibit Works of Bharat Ajari | KNIA KRLS Radio

Central College will welcome the works of Bharat Ajari to the Mills Gallery until March 12 as part of the college’s Black History Month programming. His exhibit is titled “The Miseducation of Bharat Ajari.” A visual artist and photographer, Ajari’s work focuses on creating paintings of contemporary African American and Black life, both in content and palette choice. His work is an exploration of color as a reference to people of African descent and as a vivid, bold approach to applying paint to canvas. “My work assumes a meaning of color that is primarily post-modern: It means different things to different people. Regarding color as an ontological reference to people of African descent … I am using the term “color” to explore and celebrate the meaning of a community’s lived experiences,” Ajari says. “These lived experiences range from celebration and joy to pain and sorrow, the entire gamut of human possibilities. Mark Twain band director named to Yamaha 40-Under-40 top leaders

CENTER, Mo. — The efforts of Mark Twain High School’s Doug Shaffer to reverse the fortunes of the school’s music program have received national recognition. Schaffer, the second-year director of bands at the school, was named last month as one of 40 young band directors under the age of 40 cited as the best at what they do across the nation in the inaugural Yamaha 40-Under-40 Awards. Schaffer was nominated by band parents for his rapid job of revitalizing the Mark Twain music program. “Before I even get started to address this, I want to point out a lot of it this goes to the kids,” Schaffer said. “Any director worth his or her salt will say the kids are doing the work for them.”
