2 dead following hours-long standoff in Austin
AUSTIN, Texas – A physician with a terminal cancer diagnosis killed a pediatrician and then himself after taking hostages at a doctor’s office in Austin, police said Wednesday.
A SWAT team found the bodies of Dr. Katherine Lindley Dodson and Dr. Bharat Narumanchi late Tuesday after negotiators spent hours trying to speak to the people inside the office, police said.

AUSTIN, Texas - The parents of Dr. Bharat Narumanchi, the man who police say shot and killed Dr. Katherine Dodson, released a statement late on Wednesday, January 27 saying, in part, that they wish to extend our most sincere condolences and most fervent prayers to the family, friends and colleagues of Dr. Lindley Dodson.
The statement from Dr. Narumanchi s parents signed only as Prof and Mrs. Narumanchi, is as follows: We, the parents of Dr. Bharat Kumar Narumanchi, wish to extend our most sincere condolences and most fervent prayers to the family, friends and colleagues of Dr. Lindley Dodson.

A terminally ill physician stormed into a pediatrician’s Austin, Texas office Monday afternoon with “numerous guns” and killed Dr. Katherine Lindley Dodson after a lengthy standoff with police before taking his own life.
Police are still trying to determine what connection, if any, suspect Bharat Narumanchi who had last practiced in California had with Dodson, 43, or why he wanted to target the Children’s Medical Group office.
Austin Police Lt. Jeff Greenwalt said authorities received a call around 4:30 p.m. Monday about a man who had entered the medical office with a gun and taken numerous hostages.
