On April 21, Lithuanian border guards found 29 packs of cigarettes in the Šalčininkai region. They were scattered around the railroad tracks. The border guards believe that they were thrown off a freight train en route from Belarus to Lithuania. Another 59 packages wrapped in black polyethylene were found four kilometers away. They were found by helicopter.
In total, 42 thousand packs of cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps were found. Their cost is estimated at almost 146 thousand euros. An investigation has begun, the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service reports.

For humanitarian reasons, 805 Belarusian citizens are allowed to come to Lithuania, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) reported on Monday, delfi.lt writes.
376 of them have already arrived, and 133 have applied for asylum.
Such permission of the Minister of Internal Affairs is issued based on a reasoned proposal by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) for a foreigner to come to Lithuania for special humanitarian reasons, such as current political circumstances or other threats. Permits are issued to victims of the regime and repressions or persecuted citizens of Belarus, active representatives of the opposition.
This exemption applies from August 11th. An 82-year-old Lithuanian man accidentally wandered into Belarus. He was reported missing by his family in a borderland village and discovered the following day by Belarusian border guards.
The man from the village of Jankūnai in Lithuania s south-eastern Šalčininkai District was reported missing on Saturday night.
According to Lithuanian State Border Guard Service (VSAT) spokesman Giedrius Mišutis, 11 border guards and four police officers started the man s search after being notified by his wife. Two service dogs were also used to locate his whereabouts.

Almost 350 Belarusians have already arrived in Lithuania for humanitarian reasons, the head of the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service
Rustamas Lyubayevas informed, delfi.lt reports.
“During the entire period from August to December 20, 347 Belarusian citizens arrived on the territory of the Republic of Lithuania for special humanitarian reasons with the permission of the Minister of Internal Affairs, 74 citizens applied for asylum,” the head of the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service said at a press conference on Monday.
According to the service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, another 40 Belarusians arrived for humanitarian reasons in a week, 2 people applied for asylum.
