Belarus wants to question Lithuania’s former president in ‘genocide’ probe

The Belarusian prosecutors have turned to their Lithuanian counterparts, requesting to question the former president, Valdas Adamkus, as part of the ongoing probe into the “genocide of the Belarusian people”.
“He is a witness, because there is information that he was the trustee of the ‘Minsk Butcher’,” Eduard Skurat from the Belarusian Prosecutor General’s Office was quoted by the Interfax news wire.
The so-called Minsk Butcher was Antanas Impliavičius who headed the auxiliary police battalions that were subordinated to the SS during punitive operations in Belarus.

(Alliance News) - The EU is to seal off its airspace and airports to Belarusian airlines after a flight between two EU states was forcibly diverted to Minsk, the European Council president s spokesperson announced on Twitter on Monday evening.
Belarussian state airline Belavia will likely have to cancel its flights to a host of cities, including to Berlin, Paris, and Brussels.
Arrested Belarussian opposition blogger Roman Protasevich, who was on the diverted Ryanair flight, says he is cooperating and admitting to charges of organising protests in a video circulated by state TV channels on Monday.

Belarus has asked Lithuania to extradite Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, the leading opposition candidate in last year s presidential election.
Sviatlana Cichanouskaja The Prosecutor General s Office of Belarus has sent a request to the Prosecutor General s Office of Lithuania, seeking the extradition of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya to face prosecution for crimes against the government system, public security, and the state, the Belarusian prosecutors said in a statement on Friday.
The Lithuanian Prosecutor General s Office would not comment on whether they have received the request. The Prosecutor s Office cannot comment on international legal assistance requests from foreign countries, because this is the principle of cooperation between states, Elena Martinoniene, spokeswoman for the Lithuanian prosecutor general, told BNS.

The Lithuanian Prosecutor General s Office has announced a case accusing two citizens of Lithuania of spying for Russia was brought to court.
This was reported by the Ukrainian-registered European Pravda news outlet, citing BNS.
According to the prosecutor s office, the defendants do not know each other and their actions differ, but findings of the pretrial investigation suggest that they were involved in crimes committed against the Lithuanian state by an employee of the Border Directorate of the Russian Federation s FSB in Kaliningrad region.
