Wafa Bughaighis is the senior representative of the internationally recognized government of Libya to the United States. She holds the rank of Ambassador at the Embassy of Libya in Washington, D.C.
Prior to her appointment to the Washington Embassy, Ms. Bughaighis was the Deputy Minister for Political Affairs in the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; she also served as the Acting Foreign Minister.
Before her foreign affairs posts, Ms. Bughaighis had a distinguished career in education as the Director of the International Bureau of the Ministry of Education for Eastern Libya. The bureau worked closely with the United Nations and civil society to ensure that Libya s youth had access to quality education after the overthrow of Qaddafi.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has concluded its third visit to Libya on Wednesday to investigate the crimes committed in the country by the militia of General Khalifa Haftar.
According to a statement issued by the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs: The team of the International Criminal Court Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda has completed its third visit to Libya, as part of documenting crimes committed against civilians.
Tripoli, Dec. 18, 2020 (PANA/Naija247new) The Libyan-Italian joint technical commission has agreed to construct a coastal highway connecting east and west Libya in the spring of 2021.
This was announced by the spokesperson for the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Mohamed Al-Gueblawi.
The project will connect Msaed at the border with Egypt in the east and Ras Jedir at the border with Tunisia in the west. It is one of the projects included in the friendship agreement between Libya and Italy signed in Benghazi in 2008.
Al-Gueblawi also said in a tweet posted on Thursday that emphasis has been placed on resolving the problem of debts owed to Italian companies by the Libyan state and the possibility of resuming air flights between the two countries.
