Top doctor responds to Windsor mayor s letter on vaccine uptake in hot spot neighbourhoods

Article content In response to a letter from Windsor’s mayor expressing concerns some city neighbourhoods are being left behind in the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed says much is still being done to target so-called hot spot postal codes. The region’s top doctor on Wednesday reiterated the strategies in place to ensure vaccine accessibility across the region, as well as more curated approaches being executed in areas particularly hard-hit by the pandemic, including Windsor’s downtown and Fontainbleau neighbourhoods, which have the lowest first-dose coverage rates locally 49.5 per cent and 50.3 per cent, respectively and sparked Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens’ letter. Ahmed said it would have been easier to address the mayor’s worries in a one-on-one conversation instead of through the media following the letter’s publication.
