Lyon County Museum The Blue Moon Ballroom was located at the Lyon County Fairgrounds in Marshall. The ballroom was built in 1929 by Ray Baldwin Jr. and John Bulowski. According to Baldwin, he and Bulowski became involved in building the ballroom after the Valhalla dance hall on Lake Shetek burned to the ground. Baldwin and Bulowski operated the business until 1938. They sold the business to Pete and Hilda Brantman, who operated it for about 35 years. Hilda Brantman sold the ballroom to John Williams in May of 1973. Williams remodeled and insulated it for year-round use. A few years later, Williams sold the building to Marlow Anderson. The Blue Moon Ballroom was destroyed by a fire on May 4, 1981, and it was not rebuilt.

Southview on schedule to open in fall, superintendent says | News, Sports, Jobs

Walls and floors are in place at the new school, and painting work is in progress. Williams said the current target date to move into Southview is in July. MARSHALL Â Marshall’s new elementary school project has come a long way over the winter months, Superintendent Jeremy Williams said Monday. From the outside, much of the masonry on the building is complete, right down to decorative patterns in the brick along one wall. Inside the school, floors and walls are in place, and crews continue to paint, add ceilings and fixtures, and do electrical work.

Lyon County Museum The tradition of getting a new outfit and hat for Easter originated in Europe. People would purchase new clothing and hats to celebrate the coming of spring and the meaning of Easter. After the American Civil War, the tradition of purchasing a new outfit, including an Easter bonnet caught on in the United States. The Easter bonnet was made even more popular after the release of Irving Berlin’s song, Easter Parade in 1933. The song is about citizens in New York City who attended Easter services at churches on Fifth Avenue and then strolled down the block showing of their new spring outfits. The popularity of the Easter bonnet hit its peak in 1948 after Berlin’s film, Easter Parade, starring Judy Garland and Fred Astaire was released.

Lyon County Museum Green Valley was established when the Wilmar & Sioux Falls Railway laid tracks there in 1888. The Willmar and Sioux Falls Railway ran between Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Willmar, Minnesota. The railroad was built by E. A. Sherman and John M. Spicer of Willmar, under the direction of James J. Hill of the Great Northern Railway. Sherman and Spicer located, named, and platted all of the towns along the line for a distance of 149 miles. The line was sold to the Great Northern Railway on July 1, 1907. In May, 1888, the announcement was made for the location and the name of the Green Valley station. However, the location of the station was made known the previous fall.
