Abstract
Nurses will increasingly have to identify and assess for deep vein thrombosis in both primary and secondary care, and so they need the skills to assess the clinical risk of the patient. This article explains how to: understand deep vein thrombosis in terms of its associated risk factors, use the two-level Wells score for estimating a patient’s risk, and carry out a leg assessment for a suspected deep vein thrombosis.

Patients suffered vision loss, a swab was left inside a person s body and the wrong lens was inserted into an eye during cataracts surgery due to failings in the city s ophthalmology services.
A Freedom of Information request submitted by the ECHO revealed six serious incidents that have prompted a review by health commissioners in Liverpool into eye services at Aintree and the Royal Liverpool hospitals.
According to documents disclosed to the ECHO, one patient was categorised as suffering severe harm after a four week follow up appointment took three years to take place.

Covid vaccination appointments should not be booked using a link shared on WhatsApp, Aintree Hospital has said. Several appointments were cancelled yesterday after people used the link sent over the messaging app to book vaccinations “inappropriately”. The link, which was often accompanied by text falsely claiming vaccinations at Aintree were now open to everyone, did open a booking website for the hospital. However, this was only meant to be available to members of hospital staff.
