Livingstone Range’s board of trustees has decided against having schools in the division pilot the Alberta government’s draft kindergarten to grade 6 curriculum for the 2021-2022 school year.
The local school board passed a motion to that effect at its April 21 meeting in Fort Macleod.

“Based on recommendations from senior administration, Livingstone Range School Division will opt out of the curriculum pilot,” said board chair Lori Hodges in a news release issued Thursday. “With considerations of timing, stakeholder feedback, and the impact on students and teachers, we feel it’s not in the best interest of students and teachers to pilot this curriculum.”

The Livingstone Range school board and senior administration meet Tuesday to discuss whether to have schools within the division pilot the new curriculum during the next school year.
Since the March 29 release of Alberta Education’s draft K-6 curriculum, trustees and senior administration have been reviewing the proposed changes to the curriculum, reads an April 13 news release from the Livingstone Range School Division.

School jurisdictions across Alberta have the option of piloting the new curriculum in the upcoming school year or waiting until the curriculum is mandated by the provincial government for the 2022-2023 school year.
