Subscriber only A teenager will plead guilty to the manslaughter of an East Lismore man in 2019, a court has heard. Bryson Larsen-Tai, 19, appeared before Lismore Local Court on Wednesday via video link but did not speak. Mr Larsen-Tai was allegedly involved in a fight near Hill and Park Sts, East Ballina on December 23, 2019. During the fight 24-year-old Jesse Vilkelis-Curas sustained catastrophic head injuries , according to court documents. He was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital where he died a few days later on Boxing Day 2019. The court heard Mr Larsen-Tai had accepted an offer from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions which would see him plead guilty to manslaughter.

A Vietnamese man has pleaded guilty to his involvement in the alleged cultivation of an estimated $17.79 million dollars worth of cannabis in the Northern Rivers.
Trong Tung Tran appeared before Lismore Local Court on Wednesday, where he pleaded guilty to cultivating a large commercial quantity of cannabis.
Police had raided an address on Bungawalbin Whiporie Road, Gibberage in June 2020, where they allegedly found a large-scale cultivation of cannabis at a remote 48.5ha property.
Police allegedly located and seized 7200 cannabis plants on the property and about 50kg of cannabis head with an estimated potential street value of $17.79 million.

Subscriber only A man accused of causing significant damage to a Lismore Cathedral will soon apply for bail Stephen Anthony Luke, 46, is accused of carrying out a week-long crime spree across NSW in September, which involved allegedly setting fire to two churches and stealing money and cars from victims. Mr Luke, who was mentioned without appearance at Lismore Local Court on Wednesday, was approved for a bail application date of April 28. According to court documents tendered to Lismore Local Court, Mr Luke allegedly travelled to Lismore, where he set fire to St Carthage s Cathedral on September 18, 2020. Multiple fire crews were called to the cathedral and managed to extinguish the blaze.

Subscriber only A 22-year-old man who allegedly robbed a service station in Lismore wielding a knife will undergo psychiatric assessment, a court has heard. Nigel Willacy was arrested on Wednesday over allegations he entered a service station on Dawson Street, Lismore, and allegedly threatened a 53-year-old male attendant. Mr Willacy allegedly demanded cash and cigarettes before fleeing the scene on foot. Two days later, he attended Lismore Police Station where he was arrested. He was charged with robbery armed with an offensive weapon. He appeared before Lismore Local Court on Wednesday, where he did not apply for bail and bail was formally refused.
