On this date in Texas Rangers history, the Rangers hosted the first Major League Baseball All-Star game in their history.
Played on July 11, 1995, the Rangers were in their second season in their new Ballpark in Arlington. MLB was happy to bring the pomp and circumstance of the ‘Mid-Summer Classic’ to baseball’s newest home. Country star and Texas native Lyle Lovett sung the National Anthem.
The Rangers had two players named to the American League All-Star team. Catcher Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez started for the American League and played in his fourth All-Star game. Pitcher Kenny Rogers was selected to the AL pitching staff and made his first All-Star team.

Rookie left-hander Sam Hentges will make his sixth career big league start on Saturday afternoon for the Cleveland Indians when they face the Minnesota Twins in the third game of their four-game weekend series in Minneapolis.
Indians manager Terry Francona can only hope that Hentges comes close to pitching as well as he did in his last start at Target Field.
That would have been on June 17, 2014, when the 6-foot-6 Hentges allowed five hits and struck out eight while tossing seven shutout innings and leading Mounds View High School from Arden Hills, Minn., to a 9-0 win over Eden Prairie in the state Class AAA championship game.

Pete Rose admitted in 2004 that he bet on baseball, a memorabilia collector asked the all-time hits leader to sign baseballs with the inscription, “I’m sorry I bet on baseball, Pete Rose.” He complied, happy to collect the fees.
Fans and collectors paying for Rose’s autograph in years since have requested, and received, inscriptions including “I’m sorry I shot JFK” and “I’m sorry I screwed up the economy.”
Among other things, Rose has been body-slammed at professional wrestling extravaganzas, participated in a cable-TV reality show (“Hits & Mrs.”), and made his belated gambling confession in a memoir released the same week as the Baseball Hall of Fame vote in January 2004, overshadowing the players elected that year.
