Local MP Michael Barrett says his vote against a government bill banning conversion therapy does not mean he supports the practice.
“I’ve been unequivocal in my position on this,” the Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes MP said this week in response to questions on social media about his vote, pointing to comments he made in the House of Commons calling conversion therapy “reprehensible.”

Barrett joined 62 other MPs on Tuesday in voting against C-6, a bill to ban conversion therapy, or therapy aimed at altering a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity to heterosexual.
