Student conquers crippling anxiety to land inspirational ambassador role

Alice Hutchinson, from Redcar, received her Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award three years ago. For Miss Hutchinson, the achievement was particularly special: prior to this, she was too nervous to even attend DofE meetings, and her anxiety levels were such that DofE youth worker Donna Leighton needed to accompany her to all early get togethers. As she participated more and more, Miss Hutchinson’s confidence grew. Now a holder of a First Class degree in Physical and Outdoor Education from Leeds Beckett University, she has just been named as one of only twenty Duke of Edinburgh Centenary Youth Ambassadors in the country.

A BRADFORD school has achieved the School Mental Health Award which is delivered by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health in Schools. Horton Grange Primary School – part of Exceed Academies Trust – were awarded a silver standard for its outstanding mental health and wellbeing provision. Horton Grange provides a wide range of activities for pupils and staff, including mindfulness lessons, tea and talk drop-in sessions, open discussions and working closely with referral services across the district. An area that has been vital over the last year is the support offered to pupils and families throughout periods of home schooling which has continued upon the return to school with a strong focus on wellbeing as part of the curriculum.

ABPCO AGM reveals Festival of Learning and 10% membership fees reduction for 2021

The Association of British Professional Conference Organisers (ABPCO) AGM, which was attended by more than 50 members, took place on Thursday, 24 June, as a digital event for the second year running. The AGM revealed details of a Festival of Learning to take place in December, described as a “hybrid learning experience” delivered largely online. The seven days of content will finish with a face-to-face event and the annual ABPCO Excellence Awards. During the AGM it was also announced that current ABPCO members would receive further financial support from the association via a 10% reduction in annual membership fees for existing members across 2022.
