rom November into early April, Gonzaga had its way with nearly every team that stood in its path. For 31 games, the Zags blasted through everyone. Until the 32nd game, when they saw a team do to them what they had done to all who had come before. It was the national championship game everyone wanted. Long before Gonzaga and Baylor’s December 5 game was cancelled at the last moment due to COVID, these were expected to be the the two best teams in the sport. Gonzaga was the preseason No. 1 team in the AP Poll, a spot they held all season long. Baylor was preseason No. 2, a spot they held nearly all season.

The storyline
As we have heard for weeks, the key question is whether Gonzaga could become the first NCAA men’s basketball team to finish the season undefeated since Indiana in 1976. Gonzaga entered the game a 4.5-point favorite. Over-under on the game was 159.5.
