NT Chief Minister Michael Gunner farewells Kevin Andrews amid political demise.(9News)
Mr Andrews introduced a private members bill into Parliament in 1996, quashing the NT s voluntary euthanasia laws and further prohibits Territories from legislating on certain moral matters.
During the nine months the laws were in operation, four people were able to access the assisted dying laws.
Mr Andrews bill left Northern Territorians incensed the Commonwealth would overturn laws supported and voted for by locals.
When asked today what he thought Territorians reactions would be to Mr Andrews leaving parliament, Mr Gunner said, I think those of us with a long memory and passionate about Territory rights will be pleased to see somebody leave the Chamber who denied Territorians the ability to exercise their will.
