Lucerne Valley Unified School District officials have announced that schools will reopen on April 5, with the middle high school starting in a hybrid model and the elementary expanding the number of days for in-classroom instruction.
The announcement comes after San Bernardino County on Sunday moved into the red tier of California’s four-tiered, color-coded reopening plan amid a significant decrease in COVID-19 cases and rising vaccination rates. The red tier is less restrictive than the purple tier and allows schools and certain businesses to reopen with modifications.

Like most students nationwide and beyond, Lucerne Valley Elementary School students’ 2020 school year turned topsy-turvy when the COVID-19 pandemic swept across the globe last spring.
Lucerne Valley Unified School District administrators were hopeful the 2019-20 school year could get back on track, but state and county officials effectively nixed the idea as coronavirus infection numbers grew.
During the summer, however, LVUSD officials worked on a reopening plan that included clear desk partitions in classrooms, outdoor hand-washing stations, hand sanitizer dispensers, upgraded air filters throughout campuses and touchless temperature scanners at school sites, among other upgrades.
