Public Safety Officials Remain Prepared for State Capitol Protests, Stress Importance of Safe and Peaceful Assemblies
BATON ROUGE, LA – Through a collaborative effort of federal, state, and local public safety agencies, officials continue to prepare for possible protests at the Louisiana State Capitol. Representatives from the Louisiana State Police; DPS Police; Federal Bureau of Investigation; Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal; Louisiana Attorney General’s Office; Louisiana Army National Guard; Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness; East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office; Baton Rouge Police Department; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; United States Attorney Office; and the Louisiana Legislative Sergeant at Arms are working closely to coordinate security protocols and ensure safety for protesters, capitol grounds and staff, and the surrounding community.
Firefighter Leonard Coney
SHREVEPORT - According to the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal, a firefighter who was exposed to novel coronavirus while completing a tour of duty has succumbed to COVID-19 complications.
Members of the Shreveport Fire Department are joined by their colleagues across the state of Louisiana in mourning the loss of firefighter, Leonard Coney.
The Office of State Fire Marshal says Coney passed away Wednesday (Jan. 13) morning.
Coney joined the Shreveport Fire Department in August of 2007 and served his community alongside fellow firefighters for nearly 14 years.
“Leonard Coney was a public servant in the truest sense of the term. He made the ultimate sacrifice while serving his city during a public health emergency and the City of Shreveport will be forever grateful,” said Mayor Adrian Perkins.

LAPLACE (WVUE) -Louisiana State Fire Marshal deputies are investigating a church fire in LaPlace Saturday morning.
The St. John Fire Department responded to the Greater Morning Star Baptist Church in the 1000 block of Balsam Street around 6:30 a.m.
The church was not occupied at the time of the fire.

CADDO PARISH - A deadly house fire claimed the lives of two individuals over the weekend, according to a report from the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal (SFM).
The SFM says first responders with the Caddo Parish Fire District rushed to the scene of the blaze on North Market Street in Shreveport, Saturday night, shortly before 11:30 p.m.
After arriving at the home, which was located in the 5300 block of the street, firefighters discovered the bodies of a man and a woman near the home s front door.
