An audit of unemployment benefits paid by the Louisiana Workforce Commission shows millions of dollars in improper payments.
The Workforce Commission says the Louisiana Legislative Auditor identified over $6 million paid to nearly 1,200 inmates who are not eligible for unemployment benefits.
The LWC s policy requires those seeking unemployment benefits to search for work, which is not possible for those who are incarcerated.
The Legislative Auditor says the LWC is working diligently to resolve all the issues noted in the report.
