(WDAM) – Drew Boyd threw six strong innings and Reed Trimble drove in four runs on a couple of hits as the University of Southern Mississippi completed a four-game sweep of Middle Tennessee with a 9-5 victory Sunday afternoon at Pete Taylor Park. The 19th ranked Golden Eagles (33-15, 20-7 Conference USA) took a half-game lead in C-USA’s West Division after Louisiana Tech University’s scheduled doubleheader at Florida International University was rained out.

Louisiana Tech inducts more than 80 students into the Order of the Engineer

Louisiana Tech University’s College of Engineering and Science inducted 81 new members into the Order of the Engineer, a national, honorary organization, during a ceremony at the University’s Integrated Engineering and Science Building (IESB) on Friday evening. During the ceremony, graduating engineers received rings and signed the Obligation of an Engineer, a pledge to maintain high ethical and professional standards that promote integrity, honesty, and service throughout their careers. “I’m excited that we were able to hold the Order of the Engineer induction on campus this year,” Dr. Heath Tims, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies for the College of Engineering and Science, said. “This year, the ceremony felt special, since this is the first Order of the Engineer induction held in IESB.”

At Louisiana Tech University, you can find different people with special talents, hobbies, stories, and backgrounds around each corner. On the 14th floor of Wyly Tower, you can find one of these individuals, Lt. Col. Christopher S. Ritter, with his engaging stories about his experience in the United States Air Force and journey into the United States Space Force. Ritter was born in England, as his dad served in the Air Force. Growing up, he was accustomed to military life. “I grew up in a military family,” he said. “I have a brother in the Air Force. My father and sister were in the Air Force. And I had an uncle in the Army and my grandfather was in the Navy.”

Williams earns OER grant

Dr. Joseph Williams, Assistant Professor of Technical Writing, has been awarded the Interactive OER for Dual Enrollment Program grant from the Department of Education and the LOUIS consortium to pursue the creation and development of Open Education Resources. The LOUIS consortium (Louisiana Library Network at the Louisiana Board of Regents) is in partnership with academic libraries (including Louisiana Tech University’s), state and private libraries, museums, and archives. The results with these interdisciplinary cohort collaborations will ultimately provide unparalleled educational opportunities for those involved with English 305. Williams is the only recipient at Louisiana Tech, and the program for this three-year grant will begin later this month.
