The Louisiana Fair Housing Action Center filed a lawsuit against Grundmann Enterprises after a three-year investigation into racial bias against renters in New Orleans, Houston, Dallas and Jackson, Mississippi. From 2016 through 2018, LaFHAC said it tested the 20-unit property eight times. Sign up for our Newsletters The group sent Black and white testers or mystery shoppers to inquire about apartments in the Grundmann building at Chartres and Iberville streets, according to the lawsuit that was filed last year in federal court. Only a white tester received a call back when Black and white testers inquired about an open unit.

Tigers against Sexual Assault Co-President Angelina Cantelli said the legislation, by New Orleans Representative Aimee Freeman, is vital for assault survivors. “One thing that consistently comes up is how inhibiting it can be to have to visit or have to live in the environment where they were assaulted,” said Cantelli. “It is rightfully distressing and can often cause flashbacks.” There currently is a law allowing early termination but only in the case of domestic violence incidents. The definition of sexual assault in this bill includes acts of obscenity, abuse, and voyeurism.
