Hanover Twp man pleads to drug, weapons charges

A Hanover Twp. man has pleaded guilty to federal drug and weapons charges, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Caleb Guerrier, 39, pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon and possessing crack cocaine with the intent to distribute. U.S. District Court Judge Malachy E. Mannion accepted the plea and will impose a sentence at a later date. Prosecutors said authorities raided Guerrier’s home in March 2014, finding a cache of weapons and ammunition, including five pistols — three of which had their serial numbers scratched off — a sawed-off shotgun, ammunition, drug paraphernalia and $195 in cash.

Salavantis to resign as district attorney to run for Luzerne County judge

She’s in. Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis ended months of speculation Tuesday by announcing she’s resigning to run for Luzerne County judge this year. The three-term Republican prosecutor plans to seek one of two open seats on the Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas. “It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve the people of Luzerne County as district attorney and I will continue to serve the public interest if elected as judge,” Salavantis said in a news release. Salavantis said she will resign after the nominating petition process is complete. Candidates can start circulating nominating petitions Feb. 16 to get on the ballot for the May 18 primary election. The deadline to file nominating petitions is March 9.

Sweet Valley woman gets nine years for drug trafficking

A Sweet Valley woman has been sentenced to nine years in federal prison for her role in a methamphetamine-trafficking operation, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Amanda Boyle, 37, was sentenced before U.S. District Court Judge Robert D. Mariani last week after previously pleading guilty to conspiring to distribute between 1½ and five kilograms of meth between January 2017 and December 2018. The investigation was conducted by the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Pennsylvania State Police, Kingston police, the Luzerne County Drug Task Force, and the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General investigated the case.
