Demanding registration of an FIR against Bains and his arrest, both leaders, along with several of their supporters and the woman, sat on a dharna outside the CP office while holding placards and raising slogans against Bains, police and state government.
Harish Rai Dhanda said, “Ludhiana Police has adopted separate law in case of MLA Simarjit Singh Bains. Ludhiana: A fortnight after serving shopkeepers notices for removing encroachments, the police have started cracking down on the violators. The cops, on Tuesday, also registered FIRs against the encroachers, most of whom were street vendors, a few were shopkeepers and some were those who parked their vehicles on roads. But there are some stretches where there has been no change.
Under the anti-encroachment drive, the Ludhiana Police aims to cover 100 roads. Even as Dugri Road from Atam Nagar Chowk to Dugri canal is on the list, there is hardly any change there. Dugri Road has a car market, which includes shops selling car accessories and car workshops. Even after 17 days of the drive, the police have failed to make even a small difference on the road, which witnesses traffic chaos every day.
Ludhiana: Under the ongoing 32nd national road safety month, the Ludhiana Police organized a drive to create awareness about zebra crossing and stop line at Bharat Nagar Chowk on Tuesday.
For the campaign, the police got zebra crossings, which had faded, painted at two sides of the chowk. However, no attention was paid to the faded or missing zebra crossings at other sides of the chowk and across the city. Besides, the drive was limited to one chowk only. Cops said it was the job of the municipal corporation to paint zebra crossings.
In the afternoon, Deepak Pareek, joint commissioner of police (city) who also leads the traffic police, reached Bharat Nagar Chowk along with other officials.
