Vaccine s arrival in northeast Indiana offers hope an important corner is being turned
After six Parkview health care workers received the state s first COVID-19 vaccines Dec. 14, memorabilia was gathered to document the historic event.
A Facebook post a few days later from The History Center shows a syringe and a vial from which the vaccine – among the first given in the U.S. – was taken.
“Public historians do not exclusively operate in the distant recesses of yesteryear, but rather with foresight, cooperation and an appreciation for the past, momentous history can be captured in real-time,” the post says.
Official sees plateau in county cases

Although Allen County s COVID-19 case total routinely experiences triple-digit increases – including Sunday – the community s top doctor said a decrease in the pace of growth is encouraging.
The Allen County Department of Health reported another 258 residents have tested positive for the respiratory virus, bringing the total to 25,791 cases with no new deaths.
New test results statewide showed the virus has infected 6,558 more Hoosiers for a total 464,354 cases, the Indiana State Department of Health announced.
Although the recent one-day increases are consistently higher than those recorded in the summer, they are an improvement from the exponential growth experienced before Thanksgiving, said Dr. Matthew Sutter, Allen County health commissioner.

Lutheran frontline workers get COVID-19 shots

Lutheran Health Network this morning began administering its first doses of COVID-19 vaccine to frontline health care workers.
The shots to those who might be exposed to infected people or contaminated material were given at the network s three hospitals – Lutheran in southwest Fort Wayne, Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw and Dupont Hospital on Fort Wayne s north side.
