Southeastern Grocers Introduces Supplier Diversity Program

Managing Editor Southeastern Grocers will hold virtual sourcing conference this spring to improve partnerships with existing minority suppliers and connect with other diverse businesses to expand offerings in its stores, including Harveys. Southeastern Grocers Inc. (SEG) is bolstering its commitment to include a broader range of diverse suppliers with a new program. Under the initiative, the grocer will work to identify and boost sourcing from grocery, general merchandise, and/or beauty and personal care product suppliers that are at least 51% owned, operated and managed by people who are disadvantaged, disabled, LGBTQ+, military veterans, minorities and/or women.  “It is our responsibility to take purposeful steps to form stronger partnerships with our minority suppliers and connect with new, diverse businesses whose products reflect the tastes and preferences of our associates, customers and communities that we serve in our stores,” noted Dewayne Rabon,

Partnership with Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis will benefit Save Our Sons initiative Officials from Schnuck Markets, Inc. and the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis (ULSTL) announced Monday, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a commemoration and continuation of their decades-long partnership that, with help from Schnucks and its customers, will allow ULSTL to continue on its mission of empowering African Americans and others throughout the region in securing economic self-reliance, social equality and civil rights. As part of the partnership, and in honor of Black History Month in February, Schnucks stores will offer customers the opportunity to “Round Up at the Register” to support the ULSTL specifically the non-profit organization’s Save Our Sons initiative. Round Ups in Schnucks stores in other markets will support the National Urban League. The campaign will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 3 and will continue through Tuesday, Feb. 16.

Schnuck Markets names Ted Schnuck as VP of fresh

Fourth-generation Schnuck family member joins company’s Strategy Team Ted Schnuck has been promoted to vice president of fresh at Midwestern grocer Schnuck Markets. In the new role, Schnuck great-grandson of company founder Anna Donovan Schnuck will lead strategy development and execution for fresh food categories, including meat, seafood, bakery, produce, floral, deli and prepared foods, St. Louis-based Schnucks said Friday. He previously served as a division manager in store operations, overseeing 11 stores in the St. Charles, Mo., and mid-Missouri markets. With the promotion, Schnuck (left) also now joins the retailer’s Strategy Team, a 10-member executive group that leads the overall direction and execution of the company. A fourth-generation member of the Schnuck family, the son of Terry and Sally Schnuck, he is the first member of this generation to be appointed to the Strategy Team. He reports to Chief Merchant Ryan Cuba.
