NWS confirms EF-0 tornados in Jefferson, St. Tammany parishes

KENNER, La. The National Weather Service in New Orleans confirmed that two tornadoes touched down in southeast Louisiana on Tuesday morning.
Forecasters say damage reported in Jefferson Parish south of the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport was determined to be from an EF-0 tornado with winds between 65 and 85 miles per hour. Kenner Mayor Ben Zahn said the tornado severely damaged the roof and air-conditioning units at the AP Clay Center on Decatur Street. Chunks of stucco from the roof were also visible in the playground nearby.

As rain drenched much of southeastern Louisiana throughout Tuesday (May 18), the National Weather Service confirmed that two tornadoes touched down during the storms Tuesday morning.
According to
WWL, a survey team determined that an EF-0 tornado hit Jefferson Parish, with winds between 65 and 85 miles per hour causing damage around the parish and south of Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.

JEFFERSON PARISH, La. Entergy Louisiana says high winds and lightning damaged a feeder line, causing thousands of people to lose power in Jefferson Parish Tuesday morning.
The company says the outages are concentrated east of Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport to a section near the New Orleans Saints practice facility, affecting approximately 4,000 customers. Entergy says crews are investigating the outage and are working to restore power as soon as possible.
