San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s detectives say they arrested David James Krause for the January, 2019 killing. The 41-year-old Grover Beach man was already in the county’s jail on an unrelated charge when he was arrested.
Detectives aren’t talking about what they think the motive was for the murder of the retired teacher.

Another search warrant has been served in the Kristin Smart investigation. San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s deputies served the warrant just before 8 a.m. at the home of Ruben Flores in Arroyo Grande. He’s the father of Paul Flores, who, allegedly was the last person to be seen with Kristin before she went missing in 1996. He has been a “person of interest” since the case began almost 25 years ago, but yesterday was the first time investigators officially named him a prime suspect. Investigators used cadaver dogs and ground-penetrating radar during yesterday’s search. They also towed away a VW Cabriolet. Sheriff’s officials say the search warrant has been sealed, meaning no other details are available.
