ST. LOUIS St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones and St. Louis County Executive Sam Page are being accused of political overreach less than a day after a new mask mandate went into effect in St. Louis and St. Louis County.
Jones and Page, both Democrats, announced the mandate at a joint press conference Monday morning. The mandate requires people to wear masks in indoor public places and on public transportation. It includes everyone 5 and older, regardless if they are vaccinated. Wearing a mask outside is strongly encouraged, especially in group settings.

California and New York City announced Monday that they would require all government employees to get the coronavirus vaccine or face weekly COVID-19 testing, and the Department of Veterans Affairs became the first major federal agency to require health care workers to receive the shot.
Meanwhile, in a possible sign that increasingly dire health warnings are getting through to more Americans, vaccination rates began to creep up again, offering hope that the nation could yet break free of the coronavirus if people who have been reluctant to receive the shot are finally inoculated.

New COVID-19 vaccine & testing mandate for NYC workers
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced a new vaccination and testing mandate for all city workers, including teachers, police, firefighters and all government workers, requiring them to either be fully vaccinated or undergo weekly COVID-19 testing. The mandate will become effective on Sept. 15.
ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis area on Monday became one of the first in the United States to reinstate mask requirements amid a surge in cases and low vaccination rates.
