After a long year for law enforcement, the men and women who serve the Twin Ports came together for the first time in a long time Thursday. They did so in honor of the 32nd annual Law Enforcement Memorial Luncheon.
“It’s an opportunity for us to honor those who have fallen in the past and at the same time I think, honor those that are alive and doing the work,” Superior Police Chief Nick Alexander said.
At the luncheon, the names of local officers who have died in the line of duty were read aloud.
In Duluth, eight officers have died in the line of duty throughout the department’s history. In Superior, six have died in the line of duty and in St. Louis County, 2 have died in the line of duty.

Now fentanyl and other synthetic opioids are at the forefront of a seemingly never-ending struggle by authorities to curtail an international drug trade that feeds addiction in communities large and small. And the substances are proving far more lethal than the drugs commonly seen before.
