LOUISVILLE, Ky. The mother of a 10-year-old child found dead Tuesday night on Algonquin Parkway has been charged with murder after she allegedly shot her son and put his body in the trunk of her car, according to Louisville Metro Police.
Kaitlyn R. Higgins, 28, admitted to LMPD detectives that she shot her son after trying to cut his tongue out of his mouth, according to an arrest citation.
Fourth Division officers found the child dead in the trunk just before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday after responding to a welfare check.
A caller had told police they noticed Higgins with a gun and a boy wrapped in a blanket who was dead, according to the arrest citation.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. Louisville Metro Police homicide detectives arrested a man Friday night and charged him with attempted murder in connection with a February shooting at Cecil Avenue and West Broadway that left a victim hospitalized and possibly on a ventilator for the rest of his life, officials said.
Robert McDowell Jr., 30, of Louisville, allegedly shot the victim at least 11 times on Feb. 24, with Second Division officers finding the victim about 3 p.m. that afternoon on Cecil Avenue at West Broadway in the West End, according to an arrest citation.
The victim, whose age was not provided, has remained on a ventilator in the intensive care unit at University of Louisville Hospital since the shooting, according to police.
