On Christmas Eve, Kentucky recorded second-highest number of COVID-19 deaths Rick Childress, Lexington Herald-Leader Dec. 26 Since Thursday, Kentucky has added 68 new deaths related to COVID-19 53 of those deaths were reported on Christmas Eve, Gov. Andy Beshear announced in a press release. According to Beshear, Dec. 24 held the second-highest number of deaths reported in a single day in the state since the beginning of the pandemic, raising the state s total to 2,534. In the past three days, Kentucky also added 5,309 new cases, raising the state s total to 255,563. As of Saturday, 396 people are in intensive care units and 1,511 people with COVID-19 are hospitalized a drop from 1,689 people on Thursday. The rate of Kentuckians testing positive for the virus is at 8.04 percent.

(LEX 18) — Fayette Circuit Court ruled Thursday that a civil case filed by the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department be dismissed against Brewed coffee shop in Lexington. The establishment became the center of controversy on Nov. 24 when the LFCHD filed a lawsuit against the restaurant and owner Andrew Cooperrider for refusing to follow Gov. Andy Beshear s order to stop indoor dining to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. A judge granted a temporary restraining order against Brewed, but despite the order, Cooperrider refused to close indoor dining. According to testimony, Cooperrider said they were operating their dining room like a patio since they had their garage door partially open.
