PC Maddie Hayes required 17 stitches after the attack in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire, on 12 September. PC Hayes, 24, said she felt unbelievable pain after trying to handcuff the teenager. The 16-year-old, from Swadlincote, Derbyshire, was given a 12-month community order and told to pay £600 compensation. PC Hayes, of Leicestershire Police, was assisting with the search of the boy after he had been detained by officers. She said she placed a handcuff around one of the boy s wrists, but he then used his free hand to punch her.
