Scolnik, a Republican who has represented the Norton Shores area on the board for 18 years, recently was voted by his colleagues to become the county board’s new chair. Scolnik believes his job now is to get the county board focused and united on issues that matter to county residents.

Muskegon crowdfunding campaign aims to transform rusty railroad bridges into murals Updated Dec 23, 2020; Facebook Share MUSKEGON, MI – A 60-day crowdfunding effort is being launched to turn two rusty railroad overpasses into works of art. The MuskegonCity Public Art Initiative (MCPAI) is leading the effort to fund the public mural Muskegon Rails Project. Four murals will be painted on both sides of railroad passes over Seaway Drive between Laketon and Hackley avenues. The city of Muskegon, Muskegon Heights and Norton Shores collaborated to turn “eyesores to eye-popping,” according to a news release. “It’s just a way to brighten your drive every day if you’re going up and down Seaway Drive,” said Judy Hayner, project director with MCPAI.

(Courtesy Greg DeRuiter) Facebook Share MUSKEGON, MI – The roundabout at Pere Marquette beach will be closed Monday as city crews perform work to get ready for an art piece that will be placed there. Westbound Lakeshore Drive traffic will be detoured on Dec. 21 so that crews can remove sand and place large boulders in the roundabout. Westbound Lakeshore traffic to Beach Street will be detoured at Cottage Grove to Resort Avenue and then onto Beach Street, through the kiteboard parking lot and then onto Beach Street at Wilcox Avenue, according to a notice from the City of Muskegon.
