Man dies after Allentown shooting, coroner’s office reports (UPDATE)

A 29-year-old Allentown man died early Tuesday after being shot Monday night in Allentown, the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office and city police report.
Erik Mondragon was pronounced dead at 12:22 a.m. at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Salisbury Township. An autopsy was performed Tuesday, and Coroner Eric Minnich said just before noon that Mondragon died from a gunshot wound to the body. Minnich ruled the death a homicide.
Officers responded about 10:50 p.m. to the 700 block Lehigh Street and found the wounded victim, police said. He was treated at the scene and city EMS took him to the hospital, police said.

An Emmaus man and a second man, who was living in a Lehigh County hotel, are charged in the illegal straw purchases of 29 firearms to settle drug debts, Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro said Friday.
The felony arrests followed a joint investigation by the Attorney General’s Office’s Gun Violence Section; U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; and Emmaus police.

Voters will have nine candidates from whom to choose the next three judges in Lehigh County.
Each of the candidates has cross-filed to run as a Republican and as a Democrat for the seats. The top three vote-getters on each ballot will appear on the general election ballot in November.
