The COVID-19 vaccine was given to 1,000 people on Wednesday at one of the first mass vaccination sites in Pennsylvania.The drive-thru clinic at Dorney Park in Allentown was operated by about 200 volunteers with the Lehigh Valley Health Network.“We know exactly what supplies we need from all of these tents, and so it’s not guesswork to try to get this done,” Dr. Alex Benjamin said.The Lehigh Valley Health Network has held mass flu vaccination clinics for the past 20 years and put those same principles into practice.The clinic was open to the first 1,000 people 75 and older who signed up on the network’s website.The shot of the Moderna vaccine was an early birthday present for Janet Rader, who turns 90 next week.“I knew once it was available, I would get it,” she said.Dr. Colleen Fitzpatrick, a pediatrician, administered the shot.“It’s a joyful occasion, actually.
